Welcome to the award-winning landscape photography of North Wales photographer, Simon Kitchin. My approach to landscape photography is based upon "getting it right in-camera" and photographing the landscape in the best possible natural light and as sunrise and sunset often provides this, I spend many early mornings and late evenings "chasing the light".
As a photographer based in North Wales many of my landscape photographs are taken in the Snowdonia National Park and along the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, as well as the many other photogenic locations in the North Wales area. Where opportunity arises though I also enjoy travelling further afield and the photographs from these travels can be seen in both my UK photographs gallery and World Travel Photography gallery. I have also had photography competition success including: Finalist, The Times Great British Summer Competition (2009); Overall Winner, Trinity House Lighthouse Calendar Competition (2010) and Regional Winner (Wales), The National Countryside Photography Competition (2011).
My landscape photography has also appeared in numerous publications including Advanced Photographer Magazine, Digital Photographer Magazine, Trail Magazine, What Digital Camera Magazine, BBC books and the Royal Geographical Magazine. If you'd like to know about the camera gear I use then I've tried a few brands over the years including Canon, Pentax and Sony and have been happy with them all. I'm not one to obsess about gear though, all brands are capable of taking great photographs, my main landscape camera at the moment is the full frame Nikon D800 DSLR, lenses include the 16-35F4, 50mm F1.8G and the 70-200F4. As I like to take the time to capture the best photographs I can on location I find filters essential and I always carry a set of Lee NDgrads, the infamous "Big Stopper" and a Heliopan 105mm polariser. I also host my own Snowdonia Photography Workshops and provide landscape photography tuition on a one-to-one basis as well as being available for commission, for example, I hosted the Anglesey Walking Festival 2013 "Landscape through a Lens" photo walk at Aberffraw, in conjunction with Anglesey County Council AONB team.
