Rhue Lighthouse at sunset near Ullapool Scotland
The last four days of my trip around Assynt near Ullapool presented quite the challenge with the light. The mountains were often concealed under a thick veil of cloud and mist, making the conditions less than ideal for photography. However, I endeavoured to make the most of the fleeting moments of clarity when they presented themselves.
Having a solid plan is critical when embarking on a photographic journey, as it can significantly influence the success of your shots. One of the highlights was my visit to Rhue Lighthouse, strategically perched on the edge of Loch Broom. My first visit yielded little more than gloomy skies and poor visibility. However, patience paid off on my second visit, which coincided with a spectacular sunset.
During this magical moment, the light cascaded beautifully across Isle Martin and the distant Coigach mountains, transforming the landscape into a scene of breathtaking beauty. It is during these instances that the combination of preparation and serendipity can lead to truly stunning photographs. This experience serves as a reminder of the importance of adaptability in landscape photography.
