New 2027 North Wales Photography Workshop dates now available
New 2027 North Wales photography workshop dates now available — Cwm Idwal and Dinorwic Slate Quarry in Eryri Snowdonia
I’m pleased to announce new 2027 photography workshop dates now live on the website for two of North Wales’ most iconic locations: Cwm Idwal and the Dinorwic slate quarry above Llanberis, both in Eryri Snowdonia. These carefully designed workshops suit a range of abilities, from enthusiastic beginners looking to improve camera control to experienced landscape photographers aiming to refine composition, light reading and post-processing techniques.
Why these locations?
Cwm Idwal: A classic Snowdonia landscape with dramatic crags, glacial features and reflective tarns. Cwm Idwal is perfect for learning how to use foreground interest and midground-leading lines to create strong landscape compositions. It’s also excellent for moody weather and dramatic skies.
Dinorwic slate quarry: The quarry above Llanberis provides a more industrial, geometric landscape — tiered terraces, rusted machinery and moody stone textures. This location is ideal for exploring abstract compositions, working with low-angle light, and dramatic sunset and blue-hour photography.
What to expect from the 2027 workshops - Each workshop is small-group and led by local landscape photographer Simon Kitchin, ensuring personalised feedback and plenty of hands-on instruction. Sessions include:
Practical on-location shooting guidance: camera settings, exposure control, focusing techniques and working with varying light.
Composition tuition tailored to each location: foreground, midground, background relationships, and how to use lines and shapes.
Creative techniques: long exposure, bracketing for HDR, focus stacking and panos.
Safety and logistics: route planning, clothing advice and how to get the best from your time on location.
Who should attend Workshops are suitable for enthusiasts with a basic working knowledge of their camera through to advanced photographers seeking to push their creative practice. Each listing includes difficulty level, walking distance, and recommended kit to help you choose the right date and location.
Dates for 2027 are limited and tend to fill quickly, especially for summer and autumn colour periods. Check the specific workshop pages for full itineraries, pricing, and booking options. If you have questions about suitability, equipment or group bookings, I’m happy to advise and recommend the best workshop for your goals.
