Antartica holidays photos - amazing place to visit

Just working my way through our antartica holidays photos and there’s quite a few to get through. We spent 17 days on the Princess Cruises Sapphire Princess, starting from Buenos Aires in Argentina and then Puntas Arenas (Chile), Ushuaia (Argentina) famous as the southernmost city in the world, then crossing the infamous Drake Passage for several days cruising through the Antartica peninsula and it’s incredible scenery and wildlife. Back over the Drake Passage then to reach the Falkland Islands then onto Montevideo (Uruquay) and returing to Buenos Aires.

All in all it was truly a holiday of a lifetime and Antartica is just the most breathtaking place you’ll see. It’s incredible being surrounded by wildlife… penguins are everywhere and whales just in all directions and amazingly close to the ship. I hope you enjoy the photos, it may well take a few blogs to get through them all as I gradually get throught the editing process.

For anyone interested in Antartica holidays from a photographers perspective I chose to take 2 camera bodies, and I’m glad I did! I have my trusty Nikon D850 permanently attached to the Sigma 150-600mm telephoto for wildlife opportunities and then I also took along my mirrorless Sony A6000 to take wider shots of the amazing landscapes. This worked out nicely as it avoided me trying to swap lenses, which certainly wouldn’t have been easy at times and some photo opportunities would definitely have been missed.

As a first set of images here are some wildlife photos…. Penguins at Magdalena Island near Puntas Arenas, throughout Antartica and also on the Falkland Islands, the photos of Whales were all taken around Antartica as and when they popped up!
