Landscape photos of Scotland from my Torridon & Assynt trip

It’s taken a little while but I’ve finally editied all the landscape photos of Scotland from my latest visit to the Torridon and Assynt areas of the North West Highlands. Whilst the weather was very challenging at times, nearly 3 days solid rain in Torridon at the start of the landscape photography trip, I’m quite pleased with some of the images I managed to captured.

More often than not landscape photography in Scotland is about grabbing those special moments, it’s rare that the light is going to be kind all the time during a photography trip so some advanced planning and trying to familiarise yourself with potential photo locations or subjects can make a big difference. This is certainly the case for me, if I’d not checked out a few potential viewpoints in Torridon before visiting I’m pretty certain I’d have probably not managed a single decent image. Being already familar with the potentail of some landscape photography spots at Loch Maree meant I actually came away with some unique and very pleasing photos…. lone trees were very much a thing!

My 3 days in Torridon wer in all honesty mainly spent driving around and waiting in the car for breaks in the heavy rain, they did come briefly and I did manage to be in the right places when they did, capturing rainbows on the shore of Loch Maree and a dramatic waterfall above Torridon… the honey pot views weren’t happening though so no reflections of the mountains in Loch Torridon, no beautiful sunrise at Loch Clair and no photos of picturesque bothies with mountain backdrops…. they’re for next year all being well!

Coigach and Assynt was much kinder to me, the light at times was beautiful and the locations perhaps just better for landscape photography, that’s my thoughts anyway. I was delighted that I managed one of my main ambitions, a sunrise shoot from the summit of Stac Pollaidh, and the beach a Clachtoll was just fantastic when the clouds and gloomy light appeared which I knew they inevitably would. Rain was far less frequent so my trip to photograph Allt Chranaidh Waterfall (Wailing Widows falls) turned out to be a wonderful experience… not only was the light kind and the waterfall gushing but I had the place all to myself, it always makes somewhere extra special for me when that happens.

In this blog I’ve added several of my landscape photos of Scotland, mainly from Cogiach & Assynt and just a couple from Torridon where the weather did prove a little too difficult at time… I’m back there next year and hoping for kinder conditions. I hope you enjoy the photos and please do have a browse of my Scotland Landscape Photography gallery whilst you’re on the website.
