Shortlisted - UK Mountain Photo of the Year 2025 Competition
I’m delighted that my sunset photo from above the Llanberis Pass in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, North Wales has been shortlisted in the UK Mountain Photo of the Year 2025 competition organised by Live for the Outdoors & Trial Magazine. The photo was taken on a beautiful summer evening and yes, the person in the photo is me…. a tripod, a very long timer delay and a bit of a run down the hill were needed!

The UK Mountain Photo of the Year is a prestigious annual competition run by Trail magazine and its digital platform Live for the Outdoors. Now in its 12th year, the contest celebrates the UK's most breathtaking highland landscapes and the personal stories behind the lens.
Entry Requirements & Rules
Eligibility: Open to UK residents aged 18 and over.
Submission Limit: Entrants can submit up to three original images via email to
mountainphoto@bauermedia.co.uk.Technical Specs: Initial entries require a resolution of at least 72dpi, with high-resolution (300dpi) versions available upon request for shortlisted candidates.
Originality: Photos must be the entrant’s own work and include a descriptive caption.
Judging & Prizes
The competition employs a two-stage process: an expert panel first whittles entries down to a shortlist of five finalists, followed by a public online vote that determines the final ranking. Judging criteria focus on composition, originality, dramatic effect, and storytelling.
Sponsored by Jack Wolfskin, the 2025 prize pool included a grand prize of a full hiking wardrobe worth over £1,000, while runners-up received high-end technical gear such as waterproof jackets and hiking backpacks.
