Stunning Stac Pollaidh view at sunrise in Assynt

Photographing the Stac Pollaidh view at sunrise in Assynt has being on my photography wishlist a while, relatively small for a Scottish mountain and with a clear defined path sunrise seemed the perfect option. Fortunately I had several days in the Assynt area of Scotland so an opportunity arose with the forecast suggesting calm and clearing weather. The climb from the carpark was pretty steady, it’s not one of Scotland’s highest mountains after all, so I arrived on the summit in plenty of time to see, hopefully, a sunrise although initially rain greeted me. In the distance though I could see an ever closer break in the cloud and to my delight around 20minutes after sunrise the light appeared. Photography wise the light was pretty challenging, shooting directly into the sun, so this image is actually a 25 shot bracketed Pano which made sure I could capture the full dynamic range of this beautiful scene.
