  • Are the Snowdonia photography courses suitable for all skill levels?

    All photography courses in Cwm Idwal are suitable for all skill levels from complete beginner to experienced photographers.

  • What aspects of landscape photography does the workshop include?

    The course includes comprehensive advice on all aspects of landscape photography including:

    • camera controls/settings such as aperture, shutter speed, manual, histogram;

    • filter choice and how to use them creatively;

    • equipment advice on lenses, tripods, camera bodies;

    • creative composition advice helping to understand how elements like light, color, texture, and shape interact to create visually interesting and emotive images.  

       

  • How large are the group sizes on Snowdonia Photography Workshops?

    Group sizes on the Cwm Idwal course are kept to a maximum of 6 participants to ensure everyone gets full support during the day.

  • What time does the workshop begin and end?

    This one day workshop starts at 08.00am at the Ogwen Visitors Centre and finishes around 2.30pm.

  • Is the host photographer an experienced landscape photographer and knowledgable about Eryri Snowdonia?

    Simon Kitchin has been hosting landscape photography workshops in North Wales for over 15years and is an award-winning and well published landscape photographer. Simon is a local North Wales based photographer and the author of the extremely popular guidebook PHOTOGRAPHING NORTH WALES so has expert knowledge of Eryri Snowdonia and North Wales.

  • Is the host photographer an experienced teacher?

    Simon Kitchin has over 15years of helping people improve their photography skills having taught hundreds of photographers and also has professional teaching qualifications: BA (Hons) Degree in Education & Training.

  • What fitness levels are required to attend the Snowdonia workshop in Cwm Idwal?

    Participants do require a reasonable level of fitness and mobility. The workshop involves walking approx 4 miles stopping at different viewpoints along the way on paths that are rocky and uneven and includes an ascent of approx 300ft to a viewpoint above Llyn Idwal. Due to the terrain unfortunately the course is unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

  • What do I need to bring with me on the workshop?

    Essential items include: Camera (with aperture/shutter/manual controls) and a choice of lenses, a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, warm/waterproof clothing and good footwear.

    Optional items include: Filters, your camera user manual, a tripod

  • What happens in bad weather?

    I monitor weather forecasts and if conditions are predicted to be completely unsuitable, to ensure both your safety and enjoyment of the day, it may be necessary to cancel a workshop. I will endeavour to provide at least 24hrs notice, although this cannot always be guaranteed; you will be offered either a full refund or a place on a future course. Weather can be unpredictable all year round in Eryri Snowdonia and workshops can take place in very changeable conditions throughout the year so you need to be suitably prepared, just in case.

  • What is NOT included in the Eryri Snowdonia photography workshops?

    A packed lunch, accommodation, insurance. I recommend you consider obtaining suitable personal insurance to cover both your equipment and travel.
