Stunning Aurora display of the Northern Lights at Penmon Lighthouse (Trwyn Du) on Anglesey in North Wales in May 2024

What an incredible night of astro photography on Anglesey this was, the best ever Aurora display of the Northern lights in North Wales, an unforgettable evening of photography!

Back from an amazing holiday in Japan and top of my list of things to see was Mount Fuji. Fortunately when we arrived at Lake Kawaguchiko the views were pretty decent with just a little low cloud passing by the lower slopes. We had a couple of hours here, for food and photos, so it was a bit of a rush trying to capture something decent but here's my best attempt.

When the weather and light combine Mother nature can produce some just incredible moments and they’re special ones to spend time with the camera. This morning was forecast to be misty in the Snowdonia valleys so I couldn’t resist and early alarm call to arrive for sunrise. I certainly wasn’t disappointed with the views in the Nant Gwynant valley just breathtaking, I stayed above Llyn Gwynant for 45 minutes or so taking it all in as the wonderful mist floated and swirled above the lake and around the flanks of the mountains.

Having seen the weather forecast predicting a misty morning in North wales I decided it was time I visited Llangollen again and the Panorama Walk with it's wonderful views of Castell Dinas Bran. I arrived nice and early hoping to catch some sunrise light, which at first didn't seem likely as the cloud cover was pretty heavy. Fortunately my patience paid off and a little after sunrise the sun broke through and lit up the misty looking Castell Dinas Bran beautifully. One of the best morning I've had with the camera around Llangollen for a good while. On the way home I called into Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen canal to take advantage of the lovely autumn light.
